Principal’s Message

Hi Families!

This is it!  The Walk-a-Thon is this Friday!  I am so excited to be here at Bubb.  In the short time I have been principal, I have seen so many acts of kindness and truly feel the sense of community.  The Walk-a-Thon is one of many great opportunities for all our families to experience the inclusive vibe that Bubb continues to foster.

I have been in the background listening to all the wonderful things that our PTA has planned.  There will be games, food trucks, activities, and of course the walking.  I hope to see all of you there!

Join us on October 4th and participate in “A Day Without Driving”. Consider walking, biking, or scootering to school that day. Read more information about this below.

Have a wonderful week!

Respectfully,

Principal Kobata

School News

Student vision and hearing screenings coming up.

Each fall, MVWSD conducts hearing and vision screenings of all students in kindergarten, second-, fifth- and eighth-grade, as California State Law mandates. These screenings will take place at Bubb on October 4th and 5th

Parents will be notified in writing if children fail a screening. Parents who do not want their child screened for either vision and/or hearing should send a letter to their child's school each school year indicating that their child is to be excluded, and vision and/or hearing results will need to be provided from their physician.

If you have any concerns about your child’s vision or hearing please contact your school nurse. Questions about the screenings should be directed to the Health Services office at 650-526-3500 ext. 1050.

Picture Re-take Day is coming!

Picture Retake day will be Wednesday, October 4, 2023. Proof sets or your photo package went home with students last Friday If your student was absent for the August picture day or you would like to retake the photos, let your teacher know so that they can be sure to have a retake on October 4, 2023.

Bookmobile visits Bubb

Mountain View Public Library’s bookmobile will visit Bubb Elementary . Its first visit this year will be on Thursday, August 31. It will park in the same spot near the multipurpose room right when school lets out, at 11:55.

Attendance Awareness Month: Attendance Tips

Early learning and success later in life depends on attending school. There are long-term positive outcomes for youth who attend school each day. Creating routines for strong attendance can help youth avoid chronic absenteeism.

Here are some tips to help improve attendance and ensure your child gets the most out of their educational experience:

  • Get a good night’s sleep

  • Prepare for school the night before

  • Establish regular morning routines

  • Have a back-up for drop off and pick up: Make a plan with family, friends, or neighbors

  • Reduce health related absences: wash hands and maintain healthy habits

  • Plan family vacations for school breaks

Volunteer with MVEF!
MVEF needs 1-3 additional volunteers at each school in MVWSD. MVEF school representatives help the families at their school understand what MVEF is and why it exists so that they are inspired to donate and spread the word about the impact of MVEF funding. MVEF also needs volunteers to help with planning our annual Gala and other community events. To learn more, visit: https://www.mvef.org/volunteer

MVLA Speaker Series: Julie Lythcott-Haims - How to Raise An Adult

Join MVLA Parent Ed on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 7pm (MVHS- Spartan Theater) for Julie Lythcott-Haims’ presentation of “How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap.” In this widely acclaimed talk, Julie draws on her insights as the former dean of freshmen at Stanford as well as her deeply personal journey as a parent to highlight the ways in which overparenting undermines skill development and positive mental health and wellbeing in our children. Listen as she offers practical strategies that allow children to make their own mistakes and develop the resilience, resourcefulness, and inner determination necessary to become healthy, thriving adults. Register for this free event here.

Walkathon is THIS FRIDAY! See you after school on September 29th.

  • Donate and ask others. We are halfway to our goal of $55,000 for the Walkathon! With just 4 days left to hit our goal, we need all the help we can get. We are looking for about $150/student to make things like field trips, library books, school social events and more to happen.

  • Signing up and fundraising is simple! SET UP YOUR SITE AND RAISE MONEY HERE!

  • Volunteer for a short time slot at the Walkathon. Please sign up for a slot to help at the Walkathon this Friday, if you haven't already. It's a great event that can only run smooth with proper support! We especially need Cashiers, help in the Activity Zone and clean up.

See you there!

Excited About the Walkathon? Make Sure To Sign A Waiver

Each student needs a waiver signed to participate in the Walkathon. Waivers are available online, in the office, or ask your teacher. If you completed a waiver during back to school night or already sent back with your student then no additional action required (and THANK YOU!).
