Hi Families!

I want to revisit the BUBB way:

Be safe

Use respect

Be responsible 

Be an upstander

In this bulletin I want to focus on being an upstander.  Good decision making is a skill that is part of being an upstander and leads to more independent, responsible and confident students.  

We should encourage our students to listen and be open minded to other opinions.  In order to arrive at a fully thought out decision, we have to put aside our personal bias and look at all sides of the issue.  

Students will make a poor decision but through the natural consequences, their decision making will grow stronger each time. Students will have to navigate tricky situations all the time and the pressure of “fitting in” puts students in a place of having to pause and think before they make a snap decision.  

Make the decision making practice fun.  One way you can do this is by asking “Would you rather?” such as “Would you rather swim with sharks or walk a tightrope high in the sky?”;  “Care for an infant or a elderly person?”; or “Go an entire month without music or streaming?” Once your student shares the answer, ask them why they chose that decision.  Point out the potential consequences and have open dialogue with them so they can make an informed decision. 

Although the Walk-a-Thon is over, we all can make good decisions to support our community because Together We Achieve More.

Important Dates 

School News 

No School - October 12 and 13, 2023

There will be no school for students next Thursday and Friday, October 12 and 13, 2023. Teachers will be in professional development on Thursday.  Students and teachers will have a recess day on Friday.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found rack is getting full! Check to see if you can find your student’s sweater, jacket or water bottle. It is located on the main hallway near Room 13. All parents are encouraged to label their child’s clothing with the student’s initials and room number. All unclaimed items are donated to charity at the end of the trimester.

Parent University Speaker Series Presents

Parenting in the Digital Era - Supporting Dialogue and Strategies for Building Healthy Tech Habits

One of our favorite nonprofit organizations is back! The staff of My Digital TAT2 will be delivering a workshop that will empower parents with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complexities of raising tech-savvy, digitally responsible children. We will address common tech issues such as digital “perfection”, misinformation, and things you might not know about popular apps and platforms.

Parents will gain crucial strategies that will support open dialogue and cultivate healthy tech habits among all family members.

Protect your family: Dangers of illegally-made synthetic drugs

It's important that you and your children know the dangers of illegally-made synthetic drugs. Synthetic drugs created in illegal labs, like Fentanyl, have ingredients that are impossible to know, and carry a high risk of overdose and death. Some are tasteless and odorless—even small amounts can cause an overdose. ANY pill bought through social media or even from a friend can contain deadly amounts of fentanyl. BOC & PTOC Seeking Representatives

The District is seeking qualified persons to serve on the Bond Oversight Committee and the Parcel Tax Oversight Committee. Representatives monitor, provide oversight and ensure accountability to the funds received by the District.

October CAC and LCC Events

SELPA 1 CAC and the Learning Challenge Committee are your groups for special education and broader learning challenge needs. If you have questions about learning challenges and special education needs, email [email protected] or check out www.selpa1cac.org

The Learning Challenges Committee is looking for members!

Are you interested in helping students with learning challenges? This can include students who receive special education services, students with a 504 plan, or any student with a learning challenge.

The Learning Challenges Committee of the Los Altos Mountain View PTA Council (LCC) helps provide teachers and school staff in Mountain View and Los Altos schools with supplies in their classrooms related to learning challenges. We need a variety of parent and student voices to help us best decide how we can help teachers and students about these issues. 

Can you attend 2-3 meetings per year to help make these kinds of decisions with the LCC? Please email [email protected]. We need more voices to help students with learning challenges. We need you!

MVLA Speaker Series: Julie Lythcott-Haims - How to Raise An Adult

Join MVLA Parent Ed on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 7pm (MVHS- Spartan Theater) for Julie Lythcott-Haims’ presentation of “How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap.” In this widely acclaimed talk, Julie draws on her insights as the former dean of freshmen at Stanford as well as her deeply personal journey as a parent to highlight the ways in which overparenting undermines skill development and positive mental health and wellbeing in our children. Listen as she offers practical strategies that allow children to make their own mistakes and develop the resilience, resourcefulness, and inner determination necessary to become healthy, thriving adults. Celebrate Shoreline: Oct. 15th 

The City is hosting Celebrate Shoreline, a free event for the community to celebrate Shoreline ’s 40th anniversary. The family-friendly event is taking place 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15 at Shoreline at Mountain View regional park, 3070 N. Shoreline Blvd. The event will feature live music, self-guided tours, carnival games, food, and more! Visit MountainView.gov/CelebrateShoreline for more information.

City of MV Monster Bash

On Saturday, October 28, 2023, Mountain View’s Rengstorff Park will transform into a ghoulish good time for all ages with the return of Monster Bash. From 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., community members are encouraged to don their favorite costumes and enjoy a fall festival loaded with a treat trail, spooky games, enchanting performances, a stilt walker, inflatables, creepy, crawly, ooey gooey zone, Dia de Muertos celebration and more. PTA News 

Walkathon Wrap Up

There is still time to help make our goal of $55,000 -- we are still accepting donations - the fundraiser will close this Wednesday (10/5) at midnight! So get those last donations in!

 

All Bubb Cubs should have gotten their completed laps total recorded at check-out (max of 60). If you did not check out yesterday and want your child's laps to count toward the room total to help them win the Golden Sneaker, please email a photo of your child's shirt, and their name to [email protected] TODAY (10/3). 

Once laps are recorded, the fundraising site will automatically charge the per lap pledges to your donors - students will not need to do anything. If you were collecting cash/check donations - those students will need to collect and turn those into the office by Wednesday.

 

Please remember to submit donations for any corporate match programs as well!

We'll be sure and share all the final stats after everything is turned in and tallied next week!

 

 

Monster Mash, Friday, October 27th 

Come enjoy a night of Halloween fun, dancing, popcorn, and more!

We are looking for some parents who enjoy putting their creative/artistic abilities to work as we put together some fun murals/decorations in the MUR. Please contact Rachel Olsen ([email protected]) if you are interested in helping in any way.

 

Report your Volunteer Hours

A huge thanks to all parents and family members that volunteer for Bubb School, especially last Friday's walkathon! Your time and effort is valuable - please remember to log your volunteer time with the PTA. 

 

Please consider all volunteer hours put in since the beginning of the school year, including phone calls, meetings, emails, events (including set-up and clean up), any preparation work at home, travel time, etc. If your child's teacher or the PTA asked you to do it, include it in your report ! Thank you so much!!
