Principal’s Message

Hi Families!

This month, our #Bettertogether theme is conflict resolution.  As students navigate the world, this is a concept they will need now and in the future.  Below are some ways we can support our Bubb Cubs since we know that Together Everyone Achieves More.

  1. Model Positive Behavior: Demonstrate effective communication that uses positive language and is based on fact, not emotions.  Students often learn from observation.

  2. Encourage Open Communication: Create a non-judgemental space where your student can express the thoughts and feelings they have about conflicts.

  3. Teach Active Listening Skills:  Teach them to listen attentively to others and validate their feelings. This promotes understanding and empathy.

  4. Stay Calm and Neutral: Model calmness during conflicts. Avoid taking sides or becoming emotionally involved. This helps children understand the importance of maintaining composure in challenging situations.

  5. Establish Clear Expectations: By setting clear expectations for behavior and consequences, this provides a framework for conflict resolution and helps children understand the boundaries of acceptable behavior.

  6. Teach Empathy: Help your child understand and empathize with the feelings of others. This can be done through discussions, storytelling, or engaging in activities that promote empathy.

  7. Make it a Learning Opportunity: Instead of avoiding conflicts, view them as opportunities for growth and learning. Discuss what went wrong, why it happened, and how it can be resolved differently in the future.

Conflict resolution skills are vital for maintaining positive relationships, fostering effective communication, reducing stress, and promoting collaboration. These skills contribute to personal and interpersonal growth and are essential in various aspects of life, including family, work, and community settings.

Respectfully,

Principal Kobata

School News

Mountain View’s New Bookmobile comes to Bubb!

Mountain View Public Library has introduced a brand new Bookmobile. The smaller size of the new bookmobile allows it to more easily move throughout the city of Mountain View and reach areas that we

re previously inaccessible with the older larger vehicle. The new bookmobile operates fully on electricity and will be recognizable with the eye-catching City colors and library logos. Its first visit to Bubb School will be on Wednesday, January 31 at 2:30, near the MUR.

Reporting absences

To report an absence, call the office at (650) 526-3480 and press 2, or email [email protected].  Provide the following information:

  • Date of absence

  • Student’s name

  • Room number

  • Reason for absence

  • Name and relationship of the person reporting the absence.

It is very important, for safety reasons, that we know the reason why a student is not present at school.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found rack is getting full! Check to see if you can find your student’s sweater, jacket or water bottle. It is located on the main hallway near Room 13. All parents are encouraged to label their child’s clothing with the student’s initials and room number. All unclaimed items are donated to charity at the end of the trimester.

Medication Forms

If your child requires medication to be kept at school, please pick up a medication release form from the school office. We cannot administer any medication without the forms.  Please note that all medication, even over the counter medications, need a medication form signed by your doctor.  For more information click here to be linked to the Physical Health webpage.

Better Together: January

“There are all kinds of courage," said Dumbledore, smiling. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends." - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Sometimes, being a good ally might mean standing up to our friends to protect someone else. In the month of January, MVWSD students will explore the essential question: How do I have a difficult conversation with someone? A thoughtful ally finds a way to express themselves respectfully and with an open mind. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.
