November 17, 2022 - English

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:

Dear Families,

As we head into the holiday season, I wanted to share my thanks and gratitude for you.  We appreciate your trust in us in educating your children.  We thank you for raising kind and empathetic children.  We value your support to make Bubb an enriching and exciting place for all of our students to learn, grow, and have fun.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher conferences are an important time to collaborate with the classroom teacher for the academic and social emotional growth of your student.  For more information about what to expect at the conference and how you can prepare, please view the recording of our last Parent University Workshop: Effective Parent Teacher Communication and Preparing for Conferences (video link, English presentation, Spanish presentation).

Your child’s teacher will contact you by Friday, November 18th with your child’s Parent Teacher Conference.  When you confirm your conference time with your child's teacher, please indicate if you will be attending the conference virtually or in-person.  Please also let your child’s teacher know if you will need interpretation.

United Against Hate Week

This week, all of MVWSD is recognizing United Against Hate Week.  On Monday, our student leadership led us in Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day.  Students wore purple and walked to school in honor of Ruby Bridges and diversity in our schools.  Student leaders (and teachers!) also did positive picketing and welcomed students on to campus.

Buddy classes worked together to learn about how We Rise by Lifting Others and ways they could stand united against hate through kindness.  They created a piece for a collaborative mural.  We hope to unveil the finished product after November break.

Message from Student Council

Thank you for participating in last week’s Half Asleep Spirit Day.  Our next Spirit Day is Mismatched Day on Wednesday, November 30th.  Students can dress in mismatched shoes, socks, and outfits.

Drop off and Pick Up Safety

Thank you for your efforts to slow down and watch for pedestrians and bikers each morning.  A reminder that the white curb on Barbara Avenue near the staff parking lot is a Drop Off Zone.  Please do not park in the designated drop off area.  Additionally, the Barbara Avenue parking lot is for Staff only.  Do not drop off students in that parking lot.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful November break.  The week after break is the Scholastic Book Fair (see the PTA section below for more information).

In partnership,

Principal Cyndee

Health and Wellness Tip: Improving Mood

Stressful events influence our thoughts (words or images that pop into our mind), feelings (our emotions), and actions (what we do or say). For example, if your childcare falls through, then you might think, “My day is ruined;” you might feel frustrated; and you might act short-tempered with your child, partner, or colleagues. Doing enjoyable activities can prevent stressful events from ruining our day.

Watch this video to learn more about how doing fun activities can make you (or your child) feel better.

To improve your (or your child’s) mood:

  1. Track your mood throughout the day (e.g., rate how you feel each morning, afternoon, and evening from 1 = unhappy to 5 = happy).

  2. Create a list of activities that you enjoy doing (e.g., painting, exercising, talking to a friend).

  3. Plan when you can do one or more of your activities (e.g., scheduling a phone call with a friend for Saturday morning).

  4. Do your scheduled activity.

  5. Reflect on how you feel after doing your activity (e.g., compare your mood rating before and after your activity).

These tips came directly from the free, online toolkit from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

PTA NEWS - BubbPTA.org

THE BOOK FAIR IS COMING!

Our fall Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the MUR during the week after Thanksgiving break (11/28-12/2). Starting Monday, November 28, Bubb students will visit the book fair in the MUR with their teachers to put together their wish lists and to shop. During those visits, each Bubb Cub will be able to pick out one free book (up to a $10 value). The book fair will also be open for students to shop during lunch on some days and for families to shop after school and during our evening Stories under the Stars event, but the exact hours depend on volunteer sign ups. To help make the book fair a success, we need YOU! Please volunteer at this link to help at one or more shifts.

BUBB GIVES BACK

Join us in supporting our community these holidays! Here are 3 ways to give back this season:

1) In our school community: Please consider donating $25 grocery store gift cards from local stores such  as Safeway, Nob Hill, Trader Joe's, Walmart, Whole Foods and Target. Gift cards will be distributed to families in need across our entire Mountain View school community. Gift cards can be dropped off in the Front Office or e-gift cards can be purchased for “MVWSD Family” and emailed to [email protected] by December 16.

2) For our neighbors: CORPORATE GIVING (especially for Googlers!) for Castro PTA: From November 7 thru 18, Google Employees are provided $400 for charity contributions to the nonprofit of their choice. Bubb and Imai PTA are partnering with the Castro Elementary PTA to encourage Google employees to directing their charitable donation to this local PTA in significant need. Castro Elementary has a very small PTA with families that are working hard to create more opportunities for their students. Unfortunately its fundraising efforts have been severely impacted by the pandemic in recent years and they are struggling to recover and create more opportunities at their school. We hope you'll consider supporting them through corporate giving and other means.

3) In the Bay Area: Family Giving Tree Toy & Gift Drive: Bubb PTA is proud to partner with Family Giving Tree, a Bay Area nonprofit that bridges those who can give with those in need of educational support, gifts, and volunteerism. Here's how you can help fulfill a holiday wish:

A. Choose a wish card and shop for the specific gift. These wish cards, with the name, age, and wish of a most deserving individual in the Bay Area, are located on the little tree in the front office.

B. Shop for an item from the Most Needed Gifts list.

C. Choose a donation or gift card envelope. You can either mail in your donation or drop it off in the envelope at the front office. Donation envelopes are located on the little tree in the front office.

If shopping for a gift or dropping off an envelope, please bring it back to the front office by Friday, Dec 2.

D. Go online and fund a wish by visiting https://wishdrive.org/BubbElementarySchoolPTA. Here, you can select to fulfill a gift for a special someone in the community without having to leave the comfort of your home. Nothing will be shipped to you – Family Giving Tree does all the shopping and packaging on their end. This is a completely contact-free way of giving.

Thank you for your generosity towards our community!
