PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:

Dear Families,

Thank you to all families who have already contributed to our PTA’s gift card drive.  Through your generous support, we are able to lend a little helping hand to families in our Bubb and MVWSD community.  The gift card drive goes until the end of this week.

It was great to see everyone at last Friday’s Math Night!  In addition to playing some fun math games together, students and families socialized and got to know each other.  These community building events only happen through the efforts of our amazing PTA Board and volunteers!  In the next few weeks, you’ll receive some messages from the Bubb PTA about how you can get involved with fundraising through our PTA’s Silent Auction and supporting our Abilities United week.  You’ll also hear about ways to be a parent leader within the PTA.  Please do consider taking on one of these roles.  Our strong community is a huge piece of what makes Bubb a fantastic place to learn and grow.

Have a wonderful week!

In partnership,

Principal Cyndee

SCHOOL NEWS

December Break

This year, December Break will begin on Thursday, December 22, 2022 and there will be no school.  Monday, January 9, 2023 is a staff development day which means no school for kids.   Students will return to school on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

Reporting absences

To report an absence, call the office at (650) 526-3480 and press 2, or email [email protected].  Provide the following information: date of absence, student’s name, room number, reason for absence, and name and relationship of the person reporting the absence. MVWSD schools also use an automated system to notify parents when a student is absent from school when we haven’t heard from a parent about the reason for the child’s absence.  To report a positive COVID case, click here. It is very important, for safety reasons, that we know the reason why a student is not present at school.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found rack is getting full! Check to see if you can find your student’s sweater, jacket or water bottle. It is located on the main hallway near Room 13. All parents are encouraged to label their child’s clothing with the student’s initials and room number. All unclaimed items are donated to charity at the end of the trimester.

DISTRICT NEWS

Please use your free COVID test after winter break

MVWSD is providing at-home COVID-19 testing kits for free to families and staff members so that you may test before returning to campus after the winter break. A box containing one test will be sent home with each student this week so that you can test on Jan. 9 before students return to school on Tuesday, Jan. 10.  Please see this letter for what to do after testing. Thank you for participating in this safety measure to help ensure all of our students and staff stay healthy.

Better Together: Exploring Differences

For the month of December, we explore how our experiences are similar to and different from those of people from different backgrounds. We will also explore Disability Awareness while building literacy around this important topic. The resources linked through the digital copy of this infographic (attached) help you and your students explore themselves and others respectfully and meaningfully with activities meant to enlarge our perspectives about people with disabilities. Please see https://www.mvwsd.org/bettertogethermvwsd.

The View Teen Center: December

Health and Wellness Parenting Tip: Instructions

We give our kids dozens of instructions each day: Get ready for school. Wash your hands before you eat. Do your homework. Sometimes our kids follow our instructions, and sometimes they do not. One way to increase follow through is to give effective instructions. For example, making eye contact with your child and gently telling them to turn off the TV is likely to be more effective than yelling at them from another room.

To provide effective instructions:

Think about a few things that you would like your child to do and try using these tips to provide effective instructions.

Instead of saying…

Say….

“Don’t bother me.”

“Please work on your homework.”

“TURN OFF THE TV!!”

“Please turn off the TV.”

“I told you to stop playing video games.”

“If you don’t stop playing video games in the next 5 minutes, then you won’t be able to play tomorrow.”

These tips came directly from the free, online Everyday Parenting program created by parenting expert, Dr. Kazdin.

Teacher and Staff Holiday Wishlists

Looking for gift ideas for your teacher? Take a look at our Teacher and Staff Holiday Wishlist Guide! You can choose an item off the list to fulfill one of their wishes for the holidays. The wishlists give us insight into what makes them happy and what they might need. They are a way to say THANK YOU for all of the wonderful things they do for our children every day. Just take your pick then purchase and deliver your gift in your own time. But please don't feel obligated to fulfill a wish. Teachers also love thank you notes, hugs, and smiles!

Family Giving Tree

Thank you to everyone who fulfilled a wish and brought in a gift to the office. All our gifts were delivered last week. The Virtual Giving Tree will remain live until January 13, so if you'd still like to contribute just head to https://wishdrive.org/BubbElementarySchoolPTA Here, you can select and fulfill a gift for a special someone in the community without having to leave the comfort of your home. Nothing will be shipped to you – Family Giving Tree does all the shopping and packaging on their end. Thank you for your support!
