CAASPP Testing 4/25-5/10

Please ensure that your child is present on testing days (see below) and avoid scheduling appointments during the testing block (8:00-10:00 am). Thank you!

April 25th-April 27th - ELA Testing for 3rd-5th

May 2nd-May 4th - Math Testing for 3rd-5th

May 9th-May 10th - Science Testing for 5th Only

SCHOOL NEWS

Bookmobile comes to Bubb!

Mountain View Public Library’s Bookmobile will stop at Bubb School on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 11:55, near the MUR.

The Bookmobile brings library services to customers who live, work and attend school in Mountain View.  Bookmobile staff provide all the same free services the library building offers. Come check it out!

Early Pick Up

If your child must leave early, an adult must come to the office and sign the student out. For security reasons, no one is allowed to go to the classroom to pick up students. The office will call the classroom to have the child come up to the office.  Students are released only to persons on the emergency card, unless we have a written note or a phone call from a parent whom we can identify. Kindergarten parents must notify the teacher if there is a change in the pickup person.

DISTRICT NEWS

Electives selection for grades 5-7 opens soon

It is the time of year when our incoming middle school students (grades 5-7) choose their elective courses for next year. All 5th-7th graders should select their course electives online by April 7, 2023 through the PowerSchool portal. Fifth- through seventh-grade parents, please look for an email in your inbox dated March 24 with links to course catalogs and directions. Please talk with your student and then log in to your PowerSchool portal account (either student’s or parent’s) beginning March 27 to help your student select his/her electives.  If you have difficulty with PowerSchool, please contact your school secretary. If you have not confirmed your child's enrollment for the 2023-24 school year, elective course selection will not be available.

Get important text messages about your school!

We send text messages infrequently for the purpose of notifying you of emergencies or with important, time-sensitive information, such as we did this week during the power outages. Make sure you are signed up to receive them. You can subscribe to receive text messages from the District at any time by texting "Y" or “YES" to 67587 using the cell phone number that the District has on record.

+Afterschool for the 2023-24 School Year

Qualifying students will be able to attend Right At School, YMCA, or Beyond the Bell after school clubs free of charge. These programs will support students from the end of the school day until 6pm and full-day during certain school year breaks, such as Thanksgiving week.

Seeking members for the Sustainability Task Force

We are seeking a combination of district-level leaders, principals, teachers, staff members, and parents who represent the interests of both elementary and middle schools. Committee members will be expected to attend and participate in meetings held every other month (on average) online during the school year in the evening hours. Applications are due by March 23 and found at this link. More information is at https://www.mvwsd.org/about/committees

Fuel for the Future: National Nutrition Month

Eat a variety of foods from all food groups.

Eating a variety of foods from different food groups is important for getting all the necessary nutrients our body needs. It’s also a great way to add flavor to our meals, incorporate family traditions during mealtime, and create a balanced and sustainable diet.

MyPlate.gov (MiPlato en español) is a nutrition guide developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help people make healthy and balanced food choices. It provides guidance on the types and amounts of food we should eat to meet our daily nutritional needs.

Crittenden Middle School Spring Musical: Matilda JR.

Health and Wellness Parenting Tip: Anxiety Curve

Stress is a subjective sensation and is commonly misunderstood as a negative feeling. However, it’s not always bad. Of course, stress differs among all individuals, and stress management is no one-size fits all solution either. A study found that low-to-moderate stress has been found to benefit individuals in terms of resiliency, decreasing their chance of distress. This was tested with the anxiety-performance curve in mind.

Here is a visual of the anxiety-performance curve:

Anxiety-performance curve shows that performance and arousal — that is, stress and motivation — rise in tandem to an optimal level called eustress (think of it as the “sweet spot” for stress). Additional stress beyond that peak tips into distress and impaired performance.

Here are some ways to utilize the anxiety curve when you are going into distress

  1. Set realistic goals and deadlines. Consider what you realistically can get done.

  2. Seek out a challenge that interests you. This can be related to your career, an exercise goal, or a hobby. Make sure it gives you the motivation to engage.

  3. Setting time-sensitive goals. Setting time-sensitive goals ensures you are accountable to others, which is an excellent way to engage that stress “sweet spot.”

PTA NEWS - BubbPTA.org

Join Next Year’s PTA Executive Board - Only 3 Position Left!

The Bubb PTA benefits our children by supporting science, math, reading, music, art, and many other programs. In addition to fundraising, we organize popular family events and support the amazing Bubb teachers and staff when ever possible. Unfortunately, the PTA doesn't run itself - WE NEED YOU! Thank you to all the parents who have already volunteered! We still need volunteers for PTA President, Language Liaison, or Historian.  Please consider joining the PTA Executive Board for the next school year. Contact Alexis Davis on the Nominating Committee at [email protected] for more information.

Save the Date: PTA General Meeting on March 28, 6:30pm

Join us in the MUR for our PTA General Meeting. We need your presence and votes to elect our new Board for the next school year, and to take action on PTA programs that benefit every student and classroom at Bubb!

We'd love to encourage a commitment to the school through volunteering and "civic duty." As we teach our kids the importance of voting when they become young adults, you too can foster support of school initiatives by attending a PTA general meeting. The meetings are a great time to get caught up on school events and initiatives, hear from Principal Cyndee, and to understand, influence and vote on how our PTA funds are dispersed.

Bubb PTA Diversity Night

Let’s celebrate our beautifully diverse, multicultural Bubb community at our inaugural Bubb PTA Diversity Night, on Friday, March 31st, from 6:00 to 7:30pm in the MUR.

You can participate in a few different ways: Create a trifold poster board about your heritage, diversity and pride. Bring little artifacts that represent you. Make a yummy plate of treats/snacks to share for an international potluck. Wear your national dress and be in the fashion show.

We will have tables setup with different continents and pride to find a place to display your diverse heritage and background. Sign up here. Questions? Email our Family Events Lead, Mr. Derek ([email protected]).
