Principal’s Message

Hi Families!

As we enter the final stretch of the school year, I want to take a moment to share the importance of finishing the year strong with excellent attendance. There are some clear facts on the significant impact that attendance has on student success and overall school performance.

Let’s start with the impact it has on academic performance.  Students with consistent attendance throughout the school year demonstrate higher levels of academic achievement compared to their peers with poor attendance records. Research shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well on standardized tests, earn higher grades, and graduate on time.

In addition to academic benefits, regular attendance is also linked to positive social and emotional outcomes for students. Attending school regularly allows students to build relationships with peers and teachers, participate in extracurricular activities, and develop essential social skills that contribute to their overall well-being.

The effects of attendance extend beyond the immediate school year and have long-term implications for students' future success. Studies have shown that students who have a strong attendance record in elementary and middle school are more likely to graduate from high school, pursue higher education or career opportunities, and lead fulfilling lives as engaged citizens.

Finishing the school year strong with excellent attendance is essential for ensuring that all students have the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. By prioritizing attendance in these final months of the school year, we can set our students up for success and help them reach their full potential.

Bubb is inviting all volunteers to our annual Volunteer Tea.  All volunteers are welcome to join us on May 15, 2024 at 3:00pm in the MUR.  There will be some light refreshments and iced tea.  You can mingle with each other  and teachers.  If you are able to attend, please  RSVP on this form so we know how many treats to prepare.

In the upcoming weeks, the Bubb teachers and I will be collaborating to create class lists for the next school year.  Decisions we make with regard to your child’s future placement reflect our best professional judgment as to where individual children will be most successful.  When grouping students, we strive to create a positive learning environment for all students and consider factors such as gender, academics, and special needs.  If there is additional information that you feel would be helpful for us to know, please fill out this survey by April 22nd.  Please note that we are NOT accepting requests for specific teachers.

Respectfully,

Principal Kobata

CAASPP Testing Grades 3-5

Our fifth grade students began their annual standardized CAASPP assessments this week and will test through 5/3. Third and fourth graders will begin next week from 4/22 through 5/3.  Our message to our students is that these assessments are a way for students to show what they know and celebrate their learning.  At the same time, these tests are just one measure of how they are doing academically and they do not define who students are.  Here are some ways you can help:

  • Remind your child to charge their chromebook each night.  Bring a pair of wired headphones daily.

  • Encourage students to do their best, but not to stress.  Reinforce that these tests are just one way to show what they know at that moment in time.

  • Have your child eat a regular breakfast and go to bed at a reasonable time.

  • We test most mornings before 10 am--please avoid scheduling any appointments during this time and be on time to school each morning.

Through advocacy, volunteers can advocate for causes they are passionate about, promote volunteerism within their communities, and advocate for systemic changes that create a more inclusive environment for all. By recognizing the importance of advocacy within the context of National Volunteer Month, we empower volunteers to not only lend their time and skills but also to be agents of change in building a better, more equitable society. We are #BetterTogetherMVWSD. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.
