November 30, 2022 - English

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:

Dear Families,

Parent-Teacher (Student) Conferences present a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, strengths and needs, and work with your teacher to help your child have a successful academic experience. Conference week is scheduled for December 5-9, 2022. Every day that week is a minimum day for students.

If you have not already, please confirm your conference time with your child’s teacher and let them know if you plan on attending in person or virtually.  For more information about what to expect at the conference and how you can prepare, please view the recording of our last Parent University Workshop: Effective Parent Teacher Communication and Preparing for Conferences (video link, English presentation, Spanish presentation).

Principal’s Coffee Thursday 12/8 @ 8am

Please join me for our next in-person Principal’s Coffee.  It’s getting cold outside, so we will meet in the Staff Lounge.  That means you’ll need to check in to the front office with your photo ID and proof of COVID vaccination or your volunteer badge.  Visitors must be masked while on campus during school hours.  At this coffee, I will share some social emotional supports that we have available at Bubb as well as provide a quick overview of our iReady Diagnostic 2 results.  We will also have lots of time for questions and answers.

Have a wonderful week!

In partnership,

Principal Cyndee

Reporting absences

To report an absence, call the office at (650) 526-3480 and press 2, or email [email protected].  Provide the following information: date of absence, student’s name, room number, reason for absence, and name and relationship of the person reporting the absence.  To report a positive COVID case, click here. It is very important, for safety reasons, that we know the reason why a student is not present at school.

Health and Wellness Parenting Tip

Sometimes kids listen to the instructions — and sometimes they don't. And when they don't, that can be very frustrating for parents. "Special time" gives young children a chance to interact with their parents without the stress of following directions—which strengthens the bond between them. It comes in the form of the acronym P.R.I.D.E.

To learn more parenting tips click here

Here is the P.R.I.D.E. Acronym:

P (Praise): Use specific praises when playing together. Rather than saying “good job” because kids hear that all the time, use a positive phrase that encourages the behavior you want to see more of. For example, you can say, “I love the way you stack those blocks high.”

R (Reflect): Verbally repeat back some of the words your child says to you. That repetition shows that you’re engaging and listening to your child. For example, if they say, “I’m reading a book!” you can say, “you’re reading a book!”

I (Imitate): Parallel play is essential for the bond between you and your child. For example, if they’re stacking legos, you stack legos. It gives your child a sense of control and relief in a world where children must follow adult demands.

D (Describe): Narrating what your child is doing shows that you are interested and that you are organizing your child’s thoughts and play. For example, if your child picks up a block, you can describe the characteristics of the block, saying, “That’s a red block.”

E (Enthusiasm): Actions like clapping, smiling, high fives, and using positive words while playing with your child show them that you are engaged in what they're doing and strengthen that positive relationship. Saying phrases such as, “That’s great!” and “I had such a fun time!” can make your child happy.

Special time is recommended to be done 1-on-1 for children ages 2 to 7 and can be done for 5-minutes a day, four times a week. Avoid using commands, asking questions, or criticizing during “Special time.”

B. Shop for an item from the Most Needed Gifts list.
