PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:
Dear Families,

Yesterday, we did a dry run for the Concentric pooled COVID testing so that we could all learn the routines.  In the morning, we let each student know if they were part of the pooled testing by giving them a name label to wear.  That way they could line up quickly when the testing team gets to their class, and they can quickly let the testers know who they are.  (Our goal is to do all the testing as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimize time out of class.)  When it’s a class’s turn, the kids line up and we bring them outside.  Kids stand on socially distanced markers outside.  Yesterday, we practiced/pretended what we do next with imaginary swabs (no actual testing has happened yet): The nurse will hand you a swab.  Kids will unwrap the swab and touch only the wooden part, not the fluffy part.  Then kids will lower their mask (keep the mouth covered, but uncover the nose), put the fluffy part in their nose, turn it around 10 times in each nose, and then put their swab in the container, fluffy side down.   Kids did a great job practicing--over half the kids had said they had done a COVID test before so it was no big deal.  We estimate that kids will not be out of class for more than 5-10 minutes, depending on the size of their class and age.  Here’s a video showing what student testing will look like.

If you have not yet given consent, or you would like to change your consent, it’s not too late!  Every Wednesday, we pull our list of students to be tested the following week.  In addition to helping us slow the spread on campus, consenting to testing also has an added benefit: if there is a positive case in your child’s classroom, the rest of the class can go on a modified quarantine per county guidelines.  That means students can continue to attend school, as long as they are tested immediately and on day 5 after exposure and they are asymptomatic.  Students with consent will be tested at school--meaning no disruption of school days.  Students without consent will need to stay home until they have their test outside of school--meaning they will miss school days.  If you would like more information, please see our district website.  You can also call our front office.

Thank you for your continued support.  As always, please contact me with any questions, comments or concerns.  Happy to email, talk over the phone, or meet at the car circle for an in-person conversation.

In partnership,

Principal Cyndee
