Principal’s Message

Hi Families!

Welcome back!  I hope all of you had a restful week off and spent some quality time with friends and family.

Parent teacher conference week is December 4th-8th.  Dismissal is at 11:55 everyday.

This time is a great opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss the strengths and needs of your student.  Here are some tips to prepare:

Before the conference:

  • Talk to your child about school and if there is any topic that needs to be discussed.

  • Tell them about the conference to help them.

  • Prepare a list of questions (i.e. What are my child’s strengths/areas of improvement? Does my child participate in class? What can I do at home? How are they doing in ELD?)

During the conference:

  • Be on time (or early) for the meeting

  • End on time. There is a conference right after yours.

  • Be yourself.

  • Ask the most important questions first.

  • Thank the teacher.

After the conference:

  • Talk about the positive points and be direct about the areas of improvement.

  • Communicate any agreements that were made during the conference.

  • Keep in touch with the teacher throughout the year.

Also, during the same week, 5th graders will be having Puberty Talk.  It is the time to instruct kids on medically accurate, age-appropriate, and inclusive growth and development.  The course covers the following topics which were sent to you earlier this year:

  • Trusted adults and age-appropriate resources

  • Gender identity, expression, and attraction

  • Human bodies and reproduction

  • Physical and emotional puberty changes

  • Wellness, hygiene, and self-care

  • Healthy and unhealthy friendships.

Please remember that we want all students to be on time and at school everyday.  A lot of information and routines are established within this time.  All students must go to the front office to get a tardy slip if they arrive after 8am.  The gates are being locked at 8am so please head directly to the front office.

With respect,

Principal Kobata

Short-Term Independent Studies

Family vacations should be planned outside the school year.  Please make every effort to schedule around our instructional calendar.  If your plans should include your child missing 3-14 days of school, please email Principal Kobata and your students' classroom teacher to discuss a short-term independent studies contract to minimize the impact of missed school days.
