Principal’s Message

Dear Bubb Families,

Welcome to February!  We are gearing up for our testing season and look forward to using our Mid-Winter Break to recharge and be scholarly ready. We are also celebrating Black History Month, and have started off with biographies of important contributors to American society.  Please stop by and read them around campus!

I am so very proud of the kindness of our Bubb Cubs.  Last week during our kindness week, they decorated snack bags for Hope’s Corner, made hearts of kindness, and donated over 600 cans of food!  Truly, Bubb is fostering the next generation of compassionate philanthropists.

We hope to see our English Language Learner families at 5:30pm for our ELAC Meeting.  And we will also be hosting session #2 of Love and Logic with Mrs. Dyer at 6:00pm.  And we are really looking forward to welcoming families on Monday for our all school morning meeting at the Peace Tree!  Our meeting will begin at 8:05am, and our PTA will serve coffee outside the front gates.

Finally, if you haven’t completed registration for your student for the 2025-2026 school year, do so now.  Registration closes this Friday, February 7.

In Community,

Principal Jung

School News

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found rack is getting full!   Check to see if you can find your student’s sweater, jacket or water bottle. It is located on the main hallway, near Room 13. All parents are encouraged to label their child’s clothing with the student’s initials and room number. All unclaimed items are donated to charity at the end of the trimester, on February 14, 2025.

End of Trimester 2

Next Friday, February 14 is the end of Trimester 2. It will be a minimum day and all students will be dismissed at 11:55.

Also, there will be no school during Winter Break, February 17 through 21.

Traffic Safety

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT), left-hand turns are among the most dangerous maneuvers a driver can make. This is because drivers must anticipate multiple elements to operate the vehicle safely.  And here on Hans Avenue, we have our precious Bubb Cubs and families to look out for.  When leaving the car circle at drop off and pick-up, NO LEFT turns are permitted. Also, be sure to obey STOP signs, come to a complete stop, and allow pedestrians to cross safely in the cross walks. The MVWPD traffic department will be coming out to educate drivers over the next few weeks.  Let’s follow the traffic laws and make our drop off and pick up safe.

Counselor Update

We recognize National School Counseling Week, and are so thankful to have excellent support here at Bubb.  I would like our families to also welcome Mr. Joe Lagano who will be at Bubb on Fridays.  Mr. Joe is at Crittenden and is expanding his horizons with elementary.  Ms. Kiera remains our counselor, and she will be supporting Castro one day a week.

“Hello All! My name is Joseph Lagano (Mr. Joe for the kids) and I will be coming to support Bubb Elementary on Fridays. I am currently the school counselor at Monta Loma Elementary, and I am excited to learn more about the Bubb community! I am a recent Graduate from San Francisco State University, and I have enjoyed my experience learning as much as I can this year. Some current hobbies are going to the beach, hiking, and watching all sports. If you ever see me around, please come say hello!”

Valentine’s Day

Teachers have been sending out information about Valentine’s exchange.  We encourage families to share non-food items.  Any edible items will be sent with students so they may consume at home.

SEL Curriculum Pilot & Community Review

Our Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum Committee has reached a major milestone! Since September 2024, our team of educators, administrators, and community members has worked to narrow 100+ curriculum options to two high-quality finalists. Now, we are piloting these programs in classrooms to determine the best fit for our students.

  • Second Step Pilot: January 13 – February 14, 2025

  • Character Strong Pilot: February 24 – April 4, 2025

We Need Your Feedback!

As we refine our SEL curriculum, we invite teachers, staff, and families to review and provide input at one of our Community Review Sessions at the MVWSD District Office (Conference Room C, 1400 Montecito Ave., Mountain View, CA).

Community Review Sessions:

  • March 13, 2025

    • Session 1: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM

    • Session 2: 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM

  • March 20, 2025

    • Session 3: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM

    • Session 4: 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM

These sessions provide a chance to learn about both curricula, share your insights, and help shape the future of SEL in our district. Can’t attend? Email Karin Jinbo to review the materials.

Better Together: February

Black History Month provides MVWSD with a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the rich contributions and achievements of African Americans while fostering a deeper sense of community among our students, staff, and families. By learning about influential Black leaders, innovators, and community helpers - from local civil rights activists to Black educators, doctors, and entrepreneurs who shaped our neighborhood - students develop a broader understanding of how diverse voices and experiences have strengthened our community. Last week, the Board of Trustees passed a resolution honoring February as Black History Month. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.
