Health and Wellness Parenting tip: Autism Awareness Month

In honor of Autism Awareness Month, we must understand and bond with our children to maintain a close connection. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that starts early in life. It affects social communication and interaction and is accompanied by repeating and narrow patterns of behavior or interests. As parents, we are a part of our child’s treatment.

To learn more parenting tips, click here

Here are some ASD signs to look for:

  1. Mobility. Examples of mobility can include but are not limited to, using only a few gestures (waving, clapping, pointing), unusual ways of moving the hands, fingers, or whole body, and rituals such as repeating things over and over or lining up objects

  1. Sensory Sensitivity. Sensory sensitivity includes, but is not limited to, delayed speech, not responding when someone calls their name, being very focused or attached to unusual objects, and unique sensory interests

  1. Interpersonal difficulties. Interpersonal difficulties can include avoiding eye contact, not sharing enjoyment or interests with others, little to no imitating others or pretending, forming friendships, and not knowing how to act in different social situations

No two people with ASD have the same signs and symptoms. Many things, such as language delays, thinking and learning problems, and behavioral challenges, can play a role. For this reason, autism is described as a "spectrum."

These tips came directly from the free online website of Nemours Children’s Health, reviewed by Dr.Treadwell-Deering, MD.

PTA NEWS - BubbPTA.org

Thank You to our Beautification Day Volunteers!

Almost 100 kids and grownups worked on amazing projects all around campus and the gardens this past weekend! All the lunch tables got pressure washed, hallway corridors are lined with beautiful potted flowers and succulents, basketball courts have new "Bubb Cub" center court logos, the Bubb Garden got major updates, the Kinder Playground got a dramatic makeover, and more. Check out a few photos of the action on the Bubb PTA Facebook page!

Come to the Bubb Talent Show!

Watch our talented Bubb Cubs perform on stage on Friday, May 26 from 6:30-8:30pm at Graham Middle School Theater! There will be music, art, cooking, martial arts, and more! Admission is free.

Coming Up: Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week

May 8-12 is Bubb Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. All families should be hearing from their Room Parents on specific plans to celebrate the students' teachers. Please participate in any way that you can. We also encourage students to thank their P.E., art, music, speech, and science instructors. Parents and kids can write notes of appreciation at the school wide Gratitude Wall during the week, and even just an in person high-five is a great way to show appreciation.

Outdoor Movie Night - Friday 4/28!

Join us under the stars for Bubb PTA's outdoor movie night on Friday, April 28th. The movie begins screening at 8pm as soon as the sun sets, so be sure to arrive on time for the best seat. Popcorn will be served (until supplies last). Blankets or low lawn chairs preferred - please save the tall chairs for the back so everyone enjoys a good view of the giant screen.
