June 1, 2022 Bulletin

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:

Dear Families,

On behalf of the Bubb Staff, thank you for your continued support throughout this school year.  Our students have continued to learn and grow because of your partnership, as well as the tireless efforts of our amazing teachers and staff.  Every experience provides lessons and opportunities for growth--as the staff and I plan for the fall, we are taking what we have learned this past year to create an even more engaging, equitable, and inclusive learning environment for all students.  Mark your calendars--our first day back is Wednesday, August 10th at 8:00 am!  Look out for an email from me late July with important Back to School updates.

When you come back to Bubb, you’ll notice some changes:

*After many years of service to Bubb and to MVWSD, Mrs. Gail Lee and Mrs. Patricia Galazzo will be retiring.  We will miss them and wish them the best in retirement!

*Ms. Vanessa Bui will be returning to Bubb!

*Mr. David Harris will be returning to his role as the district technology coach and Mrs. Cathy Patterson (Coach Cathy) will be moving to Castro.  We thank them for their service to the Bubb community and are excited for them to bring the Bubb love to other schools in our district.

*Ms. Rennea Phillips will be moving to a different school district and we wish her the best.

*With the shift in student enrollment, we will be making some staffing grade level changes. Students will receive their class placements in August.

*The campus will look slightly different.  As discussed at several of our Principal’s Coffees and in past Bubb bulletins, we will have some construction over the summer.  Parts of campus will be closed for part of the summer to remove the portables and to repave the blacktop.  Electronic locks will be added to the perimeter gates.  For more information, please see the MVWSD construction webpage.

Finally, I would like to thank our parent leaders on the PTA Executive Board, School Site Council English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), and our Project Cornerstone leads and fundraising chairs: Treicy Samoya, Bindu Kharani Brown, Lori Brody, Jacob Swiss, Diana Neebe, Sraddha Shukla, Vinita Alwyn, Jessica Lemieux, Ming Luke, Jessica Yeh, Lisa Henry, Darren Goode, Ray Harvey, Dylan Rivas, Ivy Xu, Dan Cheng, Rebekah Laffoon, Vinita Alwyn, and Christl Denecke. Because of their leadership, we have had wonderful fundraising and community events this year, such as Read-a-Thon and Monster Mash, and engaging school events such as Author Visits and Science Days.  Our parent leaders have also reviewed our academic data and supported our plans to increase achievement for all of our students, including English Learners.  If you are interested in being a parent leader on any of these groups, please email me!

I hope everyone has a wonderful summer. Don’t forget to have your students complete some or all of Bubb’s Summer Learning Challenge! Students were sent home with their Summer Learning Log today and their Clever badge (grades K-2).

Have a wonderful summer!  5th graders and those leaving Bubb--we will miss you!  We are excited

In partnership,

Principal Cyndee

Parents will have access to three reports for their child - For Families Report, Common Core State Standards Report (CCSS), and the Diagnostic Growth Report. Families of English Learners: Look for Summative ELPAC results in the mail

MVWSD has begun to receive scores for English Learner students who took the Summative ELPAC assessment this spring. Due to the nature of the assessment, scores will come in on a rolling basis and will be sent to families over the course of the summer. Families should also look for an email this summer detailing how to download the score reports on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Leticia Corcoran at [email protected]

Supporting neighbors in need: CSA

Community Services Agency (CSA) provides safety-net services to the most vulnerable members of the Mountain View/Los Altos community. They offer emergency rental assistance, short-term hotel stays, car repairs, senior case management, a food pantry, and many other essential services. In order to support the community, CSA holds events like the upcoming Back-to-School Program on July 29 and 30, when parents and children from the Mountain View Whisman School District who are in need can get gift cards to buy school supplies for the 2022-23 school year. If you are interested in learning more about the Back-to-School Program and how you can help, click here. If you are in need of services, contact CSA at 650-968-0836.

MVEF: Additional ELA Teachers Next Year!

Due to increased support from our donors, MVEF met our stretch goal to raise an additional $300,000 to hire two additional English Language Arts teachers next year, one at each of the MVWSD middle schools. We are happy to announce that MVEF has committed the funds to the District so they can hire the ELA teachers. We are so grateful for the support we have received, and are looking forward to seeing the benefits of smaller class sizes to our students’ education next year!

Summer Reading at MV Public Library

Read, learn, and earn rewards with the Mountain View Public Library this summer! The summer reading program will run from June 4 to July 31, 2022 and is free for all. Register the whole family at mountainview.gov/summerreading.

Covid vaccines and testing locations

The Food and Drug Administration has authorized a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. To get a COVID vaccine for yourself or your child, see the county’s drop-in clinics here or schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider or pharmacy.

COVID testing remains an important tool to keep yourself and our community safe this summer. Schedule a COVID PCR test with your healthcare provider or at a county facility here. Additionally, every home in the U.S. is eligible to order a 3rd round of free at-home rapid tests if you have not already done so at covid.gov/tests.
