May 25, 2022 Bulletin

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:

Dear Families,

Today all students participated in a bike and pedestrian safety workshop, thanks to a partnership with the City of Mountain View.  Students learned and practiced several skills, including proper bicycle safety equipment, making eye contact with drivers before crossing streets, and taking safer routes to school.  To learn more about walking and biking to school, please visit our school’s website for more information.  Summer is a great time to teach, rehearse, and reinforce bike and pedestrian safety rules with your children.

A friendly reminder that Friday is the end of the 3rd trimester and a minimum day for students.  There is no school on Monday, May 30th in observance of Memorial Day.  The last day of school is Friday, June 3rd and is also a minimum day for students.  Report cards and iReady diagnostic 3 scores will be emailed to families on June 3rd.

Have a wonderful week!

In partnership,

Principal Cyndee

Please remember to return any checked out  books to Mrs. Hatakeda in the library before Thursday, June 1.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found is overflowing! There are sweatshirts, jackets, sweaters, water bottles and lunch boxes that might be yours!  Remind your student to check the lost and found located in the hallway at the second wing of classrooms.  Parents can also check in the evenings or weekends. Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of the school year.

5th Grade Instrument Return

If you borrowed an instrument from MVWSD for your child to participate in the 5th grade instrumental music program during the 2021-22 school year, we will be collecting the instruments beginning May 31st through June 10th. Instruments will be collected at the District Office portables, 1400 Montecito Ave., Mountain View, CA 94043, Room #3

Please follow the steps outlined below to return your child’s instrument:

  • Please make an appointment on the following link: http://mvw.sd/instruments

  • At the time of your appointment, please bring the instrument without any personal belongings (e.g., pencils, papers, clips, cleaning rugs, etc.).

  • Before you arrive, please ask your student to make sure that all pieces of the instrument are in the case.

  • For your safety and the safety of our staff, please be sure you wear a mask during your appointment.

  • You’ll have only a 5-minute slot so please be on time.

PLEASE NOTE: If your student is in the Honors Summer program with CSMA, please do not return the instrument. We will email you the date the instruments should be returned upon completion of the program.

If your child has selected an instrumental elective in 6th grade, the middle school will send information about instruments in August 2022.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns to Raquel Hernandez at [email protected].

TK-4 grade students: Turn in Chromebooks by end of year

MVWSD is proud to provide a device for learning to every student, as well as access to the Internet both at home and school. Regular access to the Internet facilitates instruction by allowing students to research and communicate, and ensures equitable access to learning for all students.

Please help us keep our 1:1 program and student devices in good working order by making sure your children (grades TK-4 only) return their Chromebooks to their homeroom teachers before the last day of school. All students (grades TK-7) who are not returning in the fall should turn in Chromebooks by June 3.

If you are returning in the fall, your TK-4 student’s Chromebook will be re-issued to your student in August. For questions, please contact Jon Aker at [email protected].

View and comment on MVWSD’s Local Control Accountability Plan draft

The District is finalizing its draft of the LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan). This is the District’s three-year plan that corresponds with the first three years of the District’s new Strategic Plan 2027. These documents are the blueprints that guide all of the District’s work for the benefit of our students.

Stakeholders are now welcome to comment on the draft LCAP plan. You may read the presentation and supporting materials at mvwsd.org/lcap and make comments before May 25. Stakeholders may also attend the public hearing during the Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, June 2 at 6 p.m. on Zoom (the link is: mvwsd.org/trustees).

MVEF: Additional ELA Teachers Next Year!

Due to increased support from our donors, MVEF has nearly met the stretch goal to raise an additional $300,000 to hire two additional English Language Arts teachers next year, one at each of the MVWSD middle schools. We are happy to announce that MVEF has committed the funds to the District so they can hire the ELA teachers. We are so grateful for the support we have received, and are looking forward to seeing the benefits of smaller class sizes to our students’ education next year!
