October 27, 2021 Bulletin (English)

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:

Dear Families,

Thank you for completing your child’s after school tutoring permission forms.  If you need help, please contact me or our School and Community Engagement Facilitator, Eduardo Rios Pacheco ([email protected]).  I will be sending additional information to students who are receiving on-site tutoring soon with the start date.

This week’s COVID pooled tests all came back negative.  Thanks to everyone in the community for continuing to stay vigilant so that our children can stay safe and in school.

Last week, our students participated in a Level 1 Earthquake Drill.  Students practiced the duck, cover, and hold procedure and evacuated the buildings.  Students and staff were also directed to notice their surroundings and see if any objects or furniture might sway and fall in an actual earthquake.

In the event of an actual emergency situation PARENTS should:
*Stay calm and cooperative for the protection of all students and staff on site.

*Report to the Sign-Out Area (the car circle in front of the school).
*HAVE YOUR ID READY. Safety first. We want to reunite you with your child as quickly and efficiently as possible. *Stand in the appropriate line according to the first letter of the student’s last name. *Complete and sign the student release form. *Receive a ticket or card. NO TICKET, NO STUDENT *Move to the side wait area (near the library).  *A staff member with the corresponding ticket will be sent to the Reunion Area to bring your child to you at the wait area. *BE PATIENT. Staff will bring children to the waiting area to meet their parents. Give the staff the matching ticket.  *Parents and children should leave campus immediately. The campus will not be secure to enter after a disaster. Students should not expect to collect their backpacks or belongings. *Allow emergency responders to do their job.
Additional considerations:
*DO NOT enter through the Barbara side of the school.  Do not park in the car circle or parking lots. These areas are designated for emergency vehicles and first responders.  *DO NOT send a neighbor, friend or relative not listed on your child’s emergency card to pick them up in your place. Can’t recall who’s on the list? Plan ahead – Email the school secretary so we can verify and update at any time – [email protected]   *DO NOT remove your child from school grounds without signing a student release form. Why? We want to be absolutely sure that children are safely reunited with their families. *DO NOT call the school or district office. ALL staff and students will have evacuated the building and no one will be able to answer your call.  *Follow us on Facebook and Twitter (@bubbmvwsd).  In addition to sending text messages, we will also utilize social media to send emergency updates. *Ask your child to recall the emergency procedures they follow at school, while the information is still fresh in their minds.  It is also a great time to discuss your emergency procedures at home.

The rainy weather last week was great for California, but disrupts our usual school routines.  Even pre-COVID, we want our students to spend recess breaks outside as much as possible for the physical and mental break from the classroom.  If it is wet outside, but not raining, students will still have snack, lunch, and recess outside.  During snack, students may stand to eat.  At lunch, we make sure to dry (and sanitize) the table and seats before each group of students eats.  If it rains, students will stand in the covered hallways for snacks and then have playtime in the classrooms.  For lunch, grade levels will take turns in the MUR, seated 6 feet apart, and then will have the remainder of their playtime in the classrooms.

As always, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns.  I appreciate your grace, empathy, and understanding as the staff and I continue to work harder than ever to ensure your children remain safe while learning, growing, and having fun.

In partnership,

Principal Cyndee

We will do our best to address your question during the session.

Note: While this presentation is tailored towards families with children in third grade and above, all are welcome. If you’d like to see a presentation that is aimed more toward families with younger students, check out the recording of last year’s literacy-focused Parent University event.

Drafts available: Single Plans for Student Achievement

Each year, our schools create Single Plans for Student Achievement (SPSAs or “site plans”) that guide the work for the coming year. These plans help us prioritize programs and strategies that will best serve our students. In the fall, elected parent representatives from School Site Councils and English Language Advisory Committees work with principals and school staff members to create a draft that is reviewed and approved by the MVWSD Board of Trustees.  Parents and staff members may give feedback through Nov. 19 to their principal and elected parent representatives to SSC and ELAC. You may review the draft plans here.
