October 20, 2021 Bulletin (English)

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:
Dear Families,

There's always a lot going on at Bubb School!  Here are some updates:

After School Tutoring

As a result of the pandemic, some students have “unfinished learning” compared to the learning they would have completed in a typical year. MVWSD has a Learning Recovery Plan to support any unfinished learning. As a part of this plan, all students will get more practice on foundational skills through instruction tailored to them based on their academic needs. These additional learning opportunities will come in the form of instruction in the classroom, in addition to access to professional tutors - either in-person or virtually.

Parents, look for an email that was sent to you on Friday, Oct. 15 with information specific to your children. Some of these programs (that happen outside the school day) require you to give permission for your students to participate, so please complete the online form in the link.

Wondering about why you received information for your student and how to learn more? For answers to these and other frequently asked questions, please click here.

As I shared last week, I am available to answer any questions that you have about your child’s individualized tutoring plan.  If you are having difficulty signing up, we can support you on site as well.

Drop-in office hours.  Please stop by:

Wednesday 10/20 1:30 pm @ the Kinder gate

Wednesday 10/20 2:30 pm @ the car circle

Thursday 10/21 7:45 am @ Library gate

Friday 10/22 7:45 am @ the car circle

(Spanish interpretation will be available at all office hours.)

I will also discuss tutoring at this week’s Principal’s Coffee, Friday 10/22 @ 9am (Zoom link).  Please contact me if you will need interpretation.  In addition to tutoring, I will discuss our school’s safety protocols for emergencies and rainy/smoke day lunch and recess procedures.

COVID Pooled Testing

We did our first full round on Monday--students did great!  No news is good news--we will only send notification if there is a positive case in your child’s testing pool.  If there is a positive: 1) families will be notified, 2) asymptomatic students with testing consent will be tested at school in the morning, 3) students without testing consent will need to quarantine at home until they provide negative COVID test results, and 4) students who are symptomatic or test positive for COVID will be isolated at home.  If you would like to change your testing consent, please contact the front office.  We pull the names of students for our testing pools on Wednesdays to test the following Monday.

End of Trimester Benchmark Assessments

As part of our efforts to make data-driven instructional decisions, all students are given end-of year assessment benchmarks.  From now until the end of the trimester (11/5), students will be taking a writing assessment, a reading fluency and comprehension assessment (called Literably), and early literacy assessments (K-1 letter sounds, phonemic awareness, and high frequency words).  First trimester progress reports will be sent home to families 11/19.  Per our district calendar, parent teacher conferences are scheduled for January.

Student Leadership and Continental Math Club

4th and 5th graders have been invited to apply for Student Leadership and 5th graders have been invited to join the Continental Math Club via our Morning Meeting assembly.  Check in with your 4th or 5th grader to see if they applied or signed up.  If your child has missed the deadline but still want to participate, you can coach your child to contact myself or Mr. Ronald.  It is a great skill for students (especially future student leaders) to learn to self-advocate and problem solve.

Have a wonderful week!

In partnership,

Principal Cyndee
