Principal’s Message

Dear Bubb Families,

Today’s Bulletin will share many wonderful community events that are coming up.  Not only are Parent-Teacher conferences on the horizon, we also have other events to bring our community together in the name of celebration and Bubb Cub wellbeing.

First, we are looking forward to our biggest fundraising event of the year this Friday!  Please remember, students need to have a parent or guardian with them to participate.  However, our Cubs will have a chance to start their Walk during school on Friday. Kinder will start their walk at 1:00pm before 1:30 dismissal, and Grades 1-5 will start their walk at 2:00pm before 2:35/2:40 dismissal.  Please look at the Walk-A-Thon volunteering list and see where you can help out!  This is a fantastic opportunity to meet other families, and build community.

I am also excited to share a Parent University opportunity on Wednesday, October 2 at 5:00pm in our MUR.  We will have Pacific Clinics present a session on “Raising Resilient Children” from their Positive Parenting Program seminar series.  We have also invited other sites to join us at this event. Click here to RSVP.

In addition, we also invite our Bubb families to campus on Friday, October 4 for our Folklorico Dance Performance in our Bubb MUR at 9:15am.  It will be another great way to show a part of the Latinx culture with our Bubb Cubs.  Please bring ID and check in at the office beginning at 9:00am.

Finally, we are inviting families to our Monday Morning Meeting.  We are looking forward to sharing this tradition back in-person, and we will host two events in front of our school.  For grades K-2, we will have our meeting on Monday, October 14 at 8:15am, and for grades 3-5, we will have our meeting on Monday, October 28 at 8:15am.  More information about logistics will come in a future Bulletin.

In Community,

Principal Jung

School News

Picture Retake Day is coming!

Picture Retake day will be  Friday, October 4, 2024. Proof sets or your photo package from last week’s picture day will go home with students this Thursday. If your student was absent for the picture day earlier this month, or you would like to retake the photos, let your teacher know so that they can be sure to have a retake on October 4, 2024.

Walk-A-Thon Nutz and Boltz

Walkathon is happening this Friday, Sept 27 from last dismissal (2:40pm) to 6:30pm!  Kindergarteners will dismiss as normal and then can return for the Walkathon at 2:40pm.

Walkathon is a great community event that brings so much joy to the school!  It is so great to have students and their families here to hang out, walk laps, eat delicious food truck food, play carnival games, and listen to music.

Guidelines for participation:

Waiver: A signed waiver must be on file for students to participate. About 2/3 of the school has completed their waiver. If you have not, complete the online waiver ASAP.  If not, you will need to check in at registration and complete the waiver.

Supervising adult: All students must be closely supervised by a responsible adult during the Walkathon.

Adults will need to pick up their students from their classrooms at dismissal:

  1. Please wait at any of the outside gates or on the Hans Ave front lawn if your child is in rooms 4-8.  At 2:35, we will open the gates.

  2. Walk to your child’s classroom and wait outside.

  3. Teachers will send students out one at a time to meet their supervising adult.  It may take a few minutes, so thanks for being patient!

  4. Students who are not picked up by a supervising adult will not be able to stay for the Walkathon.  They must go straight home and then can return to Walkathon later with a supervising adult.

For students at Right at School or the YMCA, they will be able to join Walkathon when a supervising adult picks them up.

If your child has an activity after school or walks home, they can return to Walkathon with a responsible adult.

Fundraising:

Many of the activities that make school so memorable for kids--field trips, library programs, assemblies, and family movie nights--are only made possible through your fundraising efforts.  As of today, the fundraiser is only half way to the goal of $55,000. The PTA needs your donations, and those from family and friends, to help us keep these programs alive. If you haven't already, please visit the Bubb PTA website for more information about fundraising

Walkathon is a big undertaking and only can happen through volunteer support. Please consider volunteering for a shift! Together Everyone Achieves More!!

Happy Belated Birthday Bubb Elementary School!

Bubb Elementary turned 70 on September 13th. Benjamin T. Bubb immigrated from Washington County, Missouri to the new state of California in 1850. His 11.9 acres were bought by MVSD in 1953 for $53,944.  It’s first year had 8 classrooms with double sessions! Check out this interesting article about Benjamin Bubb from a 2018 Cuesta Park Neighborhood Association Newsletter.  Happy Birthday, Bubb Elementary School!

Attendance and Tardies

We don’t want your child to fall behind in school and get discouraged.  Please ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time.

  • A reminder school starts at 8:00am, drop-off starts at 7:45am

  • Please ensure your child is at school or getting dropped off before the gates close at 8:00am. Your child is considered late at 8:00am

Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance:

  • Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.

  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.

  • Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick

  • Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session; book at the end of the day.

  • Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.

  • Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up.  Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.

District News

Share your ideas about social-emotional learning (SEL) for our students

Parents and staff members, please take a moment to complete a quick survey about social emotional learning by Sept. 30. Your thoughts will provide valuable insights into students' emotional well-being and development. Your feedback will help MVWSD and the SEL Curriculum Committee as they work to select curriculum and activities for students to better support students' social and emotional needs. Additionally, your ideas will be included in plans for how school counselors can support students. Click here for the SEL stakeholder survey .

Join us on our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) journey

We are seeking applicants to join the MVWSD 2024-2025 SEL Curriculum Adoption Committee, where our focus will be Social Emotional Learning curriculum adoption.  If you are interested in being a part of this moment in our SEL journey, please complete this application by September 27, 2024. Even if you might be unsure about participation, we encourage you to apply. By applying to the committee you will learn more about the commitment that will be asked of participants.

The SEL Curriculum Adoption Committee is seeking  participants from all members of our District community, however it must be primarily composed of MVWSD teachers. We will meet up to 11 times this school year between October and April, including 3 Saturdays.  The objective of this committee is to examine stakeholder input, SEL curriculum options, engage in a curriculum pilot, and make recommendation(s) to the Board of Trustees for adoption.  Applying neither commits you, nor guarantees a seat on the committee.  Following your application, you will be provided with next steps. Apply here: http://mvw.sd/SELCommittee
