Principal’s Message

Dear Bubb Families,

I cannot thank you enough for the wonderful Walk-A-Thon.  The participation and connections we made on Friday will have a lasting impact on our students’ core memories.  Bubb’s PTA is a priceless asset to our community and they have gone above and beyond with another event.  We have raised over our goal of $55,000 and families have the opportunity to put in a last minute donation until tonight, midnight!  I look forward to our upcoming monster Mash and Silent Auction.  Go Cubs!

In the following weeks, we will focus on attendance and work with our Bubb Cubs to build healthy habits in sleep and morning routines.  Every instructional minute counts and we want each student to come to school calm, confident, and not feeling rushed.  Teachers start instruction right away in the morning, and we want each student to have the opportunity to maximize their potential.  I thank you in advance for your partnership on this important habit.

Here are some reminders of upcoming community wide events:  Please remember we have our Parent University Event tonight in Room 19 with Pacific Clinics at 5:00pm.  We will serve snacks (pandulce, coffee) and host childcare in the library. We have our ELAC tomorrow at 5:30pm in Staff Lounge.  We also have our Folklorico Dance Performance on Friday.   Also, be on the lookout for Parent Teacher Conference information from teachers.

In Gratitude,

Principal Jung

Picture Retake Day is coming!

Picture Retake day will be this Friday, October 4, 2024. If your student was absent for the picture day earlier this month, or you would like to retake the photos, let your teacher know so that they can be sure to have a retake on October 4, 2024.

No School - October 10 and 11, 2024

Next week, on Thursday and Friday, October 10 and 11, 2024, there will be no school. Teachers will be in professional development on Thursday.  Students and teachers will have a recess day on Friday.

Reporting absences

To report an absence, call the office at (650) 526-3480 and press 2, or email [email protected].  Provide the following information: date of absence, student’s name, room number, reason for absence, and name and relationship of the person reporting the absence. It is very important, for safety reasons, that we know the reason why a student is not present at school.

Extended Absences During the School Year/Independent Study Contracts

California law requires that all students attend school unless they are ill, have a medical appointment, or have a death in the family.  All other absences are called “unexcused.”  After 3 unexcused absences, district staff sends out a notification letter.  After the 4th and 5th unexcused absences, the student is declared a truant per California education code.  Excessive unexcused absences may lead to review by the State Attendance Review Board.

Family vacations during the school year are considered unexcused absences.  However, per MVWSD School Board policy, parents may request an Independent Study Contract for planned absences of 3 to 14 school days, which must be approved by the principal and the teacher.  The ISC allows the time away from school to be counted as attendance IF the student completes the assigned homework.  Requests must be made a minimum of one week prior to the absence.  To request an ISC, please email Principal Jung ([email protected]).

Better Together: October

Families come in all shapes and sizes, each one a unique community bound by love, support, and shared experiences. This month #BetterTogether presents the topic “A family is a community”. October is also LGBTQ+ History Month. As we celebrate both of these together, we are reminded of the countless families that have fought for recognition and acceptance, paving the way for a more inclusive understanding of what family means. From single-parent households to multigenerational homes, from same-sex couples to chosen families within the LGBTQ+ community, each family contributes its own special thread to the vibrant tapestry of our society. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/bettertogetherMVWSD.
