Principal’s Message
Dear Bubb Families,
Thank you again to our PTA for another successful Silent Auction Event! There are many special events coming up for our Bubb Cubs, and your support makes all of them happen. We thank you for your participation and contribution.
This week, our Bubb Cubs are participating in United Against Hate Week with random acts of kindness, by thinking about community, and showing the Bubb Way. And, this past Tuesday, our Cubs heard from Grandmaster Perez, former Gold Medalist, about bullying. His message highlighted:
1. Be a champion, know your power. You have 3 types of power: Brain, Feet, Words
2. Bullying is a chameleon. Bullying can take many different forms. Sometimes we don't even realize it's happening, therefore, it is important we are always acting as champions because we can make a difference.
3. Be a model for others. Everyone is a powerful champion that can make a difference. Use your brain to think smart. Use your feet to walk away when you need a break, or no longer feel safe. Use your words to resolve conflict. Show others what it means to be kind & respectful. Apologizing can be a scary thing, but it takes a brave Champion to admit they've made a mistake and take actions to fix it.
4. Stand up for others. Speak up when you notice or feel something is not right. Find a trusting adult to support you. Sometimes the best way to stand up for others is to be a kind friend.
Finally, I wish all of our Bubb Cubs and Families a warm, and happy
Thanksgiving. I am grateful to be a part of this community, and I appreciate all of your support. Have a safe and wonderful break.
In Community,
Principal Jung

Prop 28 - Arts and Music in Schools Funding
California schools will now receive additional funding for arts and music each year. In addition to our current arts programs, our school will soon have an additional annual budget of approximately $41,000 to spend on more arts and music experiences for students, and we need your ideas!
There will be two main ways to share your thoughts:
-
Please click here for a brief survey about potential future arts programming. (The students and staff will be given similar surveys at school). This survey will be open until December 15.

Reporting absences
To report an absence, call the office at (650) 526-3480 and press 2, or email [email protected]. Provide the following information: date of absence, student’s name, room number, reason for absence, and name and relationship of the person reporting the absence. It is very important, for safety reasons, that we know the reason why a student is not present at school.
Extended Absences During the School Year/Independent Study Contracts
California law requires that all students attend school unless they are ill, have a medical appointment, or have a death in the family. All other absences are called “unexcused.” After 3 unexcused absences, district staff sends out a notification letter. After the 4th and 5th unexcused absences, the student is declared a truant per California education code. Excessive unexcused absences may lead to review by the State Attendance Review Board.
Family vacations during the school year are considered unexcused absences. However, per MVWSD School Board policy, parents may request an Independent Study Contract for planned absences of 3 to 14 school days, which must be approved by the principal and the teacher. The ISC allows the time away from school to be counted as attendance IF the student completes the assigned homework. Requests must be made a minimum of one week prior to the absence. To request an ISC, please email Principal Jung ([email protected]).
Medication
All students taking medication at school must submit a “Medication Authorization Form” signed by the student’s doctor. Forms are available by contacting office staff. Without authorization, office staff cannot administer any medication, including Tylenol, Advil, allergy medicines, cough drops, or asthma inhalers. Students are never allowed to have any medication on their person or in their backpack at school. All medicines and Medication Authorization Forms are kept in the office and brought by the teacher in charge for off-campus field trips.
