Principal’s Message

Dear Bubb Families,

I have some exciting news to share: Due to the passage of Proposition 28, California schools will now receive additional funding for arts and music each year. In addition to our current arts programs, our school will soon have an additional annual budget of approximately $41,000 to spend on more arts and music experiences for students, and we need your ideas!

There will be two main ways to share your thoughts:

  1. Please click here for a brief survey about potential future arts programming. (The students and staff will be given similar surveys at school). This survey will be open until December 15.

  2. Come and hear more about Prop 28 and give input on this topic at these upcoming meetings:

  • Principal’s Coffee, January 25, 2025, 8:15am

  • SSC Meeting, January 23, 2025, 4:00pm, via Google Meet: meet.google.com/igw-pgnf-cuo

  • PTA General meeting, January 28, 2025,6:00pm

Your input is valued and an important part of our process. To learn more about Proposition 28, click here.

I also would like to thank our PTA for a wonderful Diwali Celebration last Friday.  It was lovely to see so many parent and grandparents on campus facilitating these activities!

And don’t forget, tomorrow is Ruby Bridges Day! We hope to see you wearing purple and walking to school. We also want to see our Bubb Cubs practicing what they learned at today’s Safe Moves Assembly.

In community,

Principal Jung

Former Principal Bindon Visit

On Tuesday afternoon, I was gifted a special Bubb Cub from the past!  Former Principal, Gwen Bindon, wanted us to have her special Bubb Cub.  This Cub has been through many years of hugging 1st graders after they learned to read!  Principal Bindon was here from 1987-1996, and a fun fact:  she was Mrs. West’s first Principal.

Reporting absences

To report an absence, call the office at (650) 526-3480 and press 2, or email [email protected]. Provide the following information: date of absence, student’s name, room number, reason for absence, and name and relationship of the person reporting the absence. It is very important, for safety reasons, that we know the reason why a student is not present at school.

Extended Absences During the School Year/Independent Study Contracts

California law requires that all students attend school unless they are ill, have a medical appointment, or have a death in the family. All other absences are called “unexcused.” After 3 unexcused absences, district staff sends out a notification letter. After the 4th and 5th unexcused absences, the student is declared a truant per California education code. Excessive unexcused absences may lead to review by the State Attendance Review Board.

Family vacations during the school year are considered unexcused absences. However, per MVWSD School Board policy, parents may request an Independent Study Contract for planned absences of 3 to 14 school days, which must be approved by the principal and the teacher. The ISC allows the time away from school to be counted as attendance IF the student completes the assigned homework. Requests must be made a minimum of one week prior to the absence. To request an ISC, please email Principal Jung ([email protected]).

Better Together: November & December

As we enter the vibrant months of November and December, our school community embarks on a meaningful journey exploring the rich tapestry of cultures that make our community unique and special. During these months, we focus on three important themes that help us understand and celebrate our differences while building stronger connections with each other: Celebrating diverse communities while acknowledging Native American Heritage Month and Special Education Awareness Month. Through these themes, we'll discover that our differences aren't just something to accept – they're something to celebrate. Together, we'll learn how understanding and appreciating each other's unique qualities makes our entire community better. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.
