Principal’s Message

Dear Bubb Families,

Our Bubb Community is launching into Sustainability, and we are excited to bring Ridwell bins.  Ridwell takes plastic film, food packaging, batteries, and lightbulbs!  We will be engaging our community in clothing swaps, lunch sorting activities, and participating in the Nextrex recycling challenge program!  Bubb is committed to making our school an earth friendly site.

Our School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) goal this year includes improving attendance. We are striving for an average daily attendance rate of 97% or better.   For the month of February, we had a daily attendance rate of 87.9% which is 233 students.  This means, 12.1% or 32 Bubb Cubs are missing school.  Please make a commitment to bring our Cubs to school every day.  Together we grow. Together we soar.

I’d like to give a shout out to Room 1 for earning 10 weeks of perfect attendance (no tardies, no unexcused absences)!  They will have an In and Out Celebration next week sponsored by a PTA Parent.  Thank you to our Room 1 families for helping your Cub come to school everyday and on time!

We look forward to our Bubb Talent Show this Friday at 6:30pm in the MUR.  Also, please join us for Love and Logic Session #4 next Wednesday in Room 16 at 6:00pm with childcare in the library. Finally, next Thursday will be our Bubb PTA’s beautiful Diversity Night!

In Community,

Principal Jung

Diversity Night

We are so excited to have our PTA host our Diversity Night next Thursday.  This event is about celebrating our different cultures, music, and food that enrich our community.  It is a night about learning about our Bubb families in a welcoming and positive environment.  The PTA works very hard to make this event come together, and we love seeing our Bubb Cubs beam with pride about their background.  Please see Konstella for how to sign up.

  • Create a display and tell us about your heritage:  music, food, dress, language. You will be given a spot at a table where you can display a trifold poster, bring little artifacts that represent you, or share a craft. A limited supply of trifolds will be available in the Front Office.

  • Bring a yummy plate of food to share for our international potluck.

  • Wear your national dress and be a part of our home grown fashion show.

  • Do a short performance showcasing an instrument/dance/song from your culture.

  • Or just come along and enjoy the event, exploring the wonderful diversity we have in our community.

Green Team Leadership Program

In the spirit of being green and teaching the students at Bubb about sustainable practices...we are proud to announce the beginning of the Green Team Leadership Program.

Every student at Bubb will have the opportunity to learn about how to make an impact on their world both in small and large ways.

Starting with education, the kids will learn about waste management and how their choices matter when disposing of unwanted snack and lunch garbage.  We will learn about where our waste goes and what is done with it once we throw it away.

Partnering with the Mountain View High School Green Team and other Green Teams from different schools in the district, we will learn how to sort snack and lunch waste into liquid, recycling, Ridwell (outsourced recycling program), landfill, and compost bins.  We will track data on how much waste is reduced in landfill bins and how much more compost and recycling that we collect.

This will be just the start of what we hope will be a program with longevity, community participation, student activism, school wide initiatives, wide ranges of collaboration, and good old fashioned fun.

Our Green Team lead Mr. Franklin hopes you will be able to help in whatever way that you can.  The Green Team will be looking for your support as we learn about best practices to care for our environment and grow as a sustainable school.

Earth Hour

Bubb Elementary school will encourage and promote for our school community to turn off lights from 8:30 - 9:30 pm for Earth Hour observed March 21, 2025 for Saturday, March 22, 2025. Earth Hour invites everyone, everywhere to find the most enjoyable ways to give an hour for Earth. Whether it is cooking a sustainable meal at home, catching a nature documentary, taking a mindful walk through the woods to bask in nature and feel the earth, or engaging in a home scavenger hunt to identify and swap out unsustainable products with eco-friendly alternatives, there are myriad options to choose from. Check out: https://www.earthhour.org/take-part/give-an-hour for more. #MyHourForEarth. https://www.facebook.com/earthhour/

Drop off and Pick Up Safety Refresher

Let’s all slow down and watch for pedestrians and bikers each morning.  Please do not get out of your car for any reason at the car circle during drop off or pick up to avoid traffic on Hans Avenue.

Secondly, a reminder that the white curb on Barbara Avenue near the staff parking lot is a Drop Off Zone.  Please do not park in the designated drop off area.

Additionally, the Barbara Avenue parking lot is for Staff only.  Do not drop off students in that parking lot.  Let’s keep our Bubb Cubs safe.

CAASPP Testing

It is very important that all 3rd-5th graders are present for testing. Please ensure that your child is present on testing days (see below) and avoid scheduling appointments during the testing block (8:15-10:00am). Students will not be able to leave a classroom early or enter once a test has started.

Week of May 5th- Science Testing for 5th grade only

Spring Picture Day is coming

Reporting absences

To report an absence, call the office at (650) 526-3480 and press 2, or email [email protected].  Provide the following information: date of absence, student’s name, room number, reason for absence, and name and relationship of the person reporting the absence. It is very important, for safety reasons, that we know the reason why a student is not present at school.

Extended Absences During the School Year/Independent Study Contracts

California law requires that all students attend school unless they are ill, have a medical appointment, or have a death in the family.  All other absences are called “unexcused.”  After 3 unexcused absences, district staff sends out a notification letter.  After the 4th and 5th unexcused absences, the student is declared a truant per California education code.  Excessive unexcused absences may lead to review by the State Attendance Review Board.

Family vacations during the school year are considered unexcused absences.  However, per MVWSD School Board policy, parents may request an Independent Study Contract for planned absences of 3 to 14 school days, which must be approved by the principal and the teacher.  The ISC allows the time away from school to be counted as attendance IF the student completes the assigned homework.  Requests must be made a minimum of one week prior to the absence.  To request an ISC, please email Principal Jung ([email protected]).

Medication

All students taking medication at school must submit a “Medication Authorization Form” signed by the student’s doctor.  Forms are available by contacting office staff.  Without authorization, office staff cannot administer any medication, including Tylenol, Advil, allergy medicines, cough drops, or asthma inhalers.  Students are never allowed to have any medication on their person or in their backpack at school.  All medicines and Medication Authorization Forms are kept in the office and brought by the teacher in charge for off-campus field trips.
