May 24, 2023 - English

Dear Families,

This Friday is the last day of the trimester.  Students will be dismissed at 11:55.  We will be celebrating the end of the trimester with Field Day!  Please make sure that your child wears their bright green Field Day t-shirt (they got these in class yesterday), a hat, sunscreen, and brings a filled water bottle on Friday.  Our 5th grade students will lead the rest of the school in lots of fund activities and games.

So many things are happening on Friday!  Other Friday events include:

*Incoming Kinder family playdate at 2pm near Room 1 for rising Kindergarteners and their families.  Please let any neighbors with incoming Kinders know, too!

*Bubb School Talent Show at 6:30 pm in the Graham MUR.  Stop by to see Bubb students show off their talents!

Site Council Elections

Please vote for new members of our 2023-24 School Site Council on this form.

We still need 2 more members for our Site Council.  Being a parent leader on Site Council is a great way to provide input into Bubb’s programs and to get to know the new principal next year.  Please let me know if you are interested!

Reminder that there is no school on Monday, May 29th in honor of Memorial Day.

In partnership,

Principal Cyndee

Health and Wellness Parenting Tip: Youth Depression

All children feel sad or moody at times. But when a sad or bad mood lasts for weeks or longer — and when there are other changes in how a child acts — it could be a sign of depression. If you think your child is depressed, talk with them. Let them know you want to understand what they are going through. Listen if they want to speak.

To learn more about depression, click here.

Here are some signs that your child may have Depression:

  1. Negative outlook. Children who feel depressed may be hard on themselves or on others. They might focus on failures and setbacks. It may be hard for them to see the good parts of things, or the good parts of themselves.

  2. Low energy, effort, interest, enjoyment. Your child may lose interest in things they used to enjoy. They may not seem to care. They may put less effort into schoolwork or tasks at home. Things seem to take too much effort. Nothing seems fun or enjoyable.

  3. Doing poorly at school. When a child feels depressed, schoolwork can seem harder. They may not complete their work, show effort, or study as much for tests. Their grades may drop.

  4. Pulling away from friends and family. Your child may spend more time alone, less time with friends, or seem distant.

Keep in mind that these are NOT ALL the signs of Depression. There are many more signs that a parent can find in their child. Identifying the signs of Depression is the first step to understanding our child. If your child is thinking or talking of suicide, please visit the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline website, call 1-800-273-8255, or call or text 988.
