January 18, 2023 - English

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:

Dear Families,

As you know, our theme this year is “We Rise by Lifting Others.”  If you haven’t seen it yet, our students created a collaborative project illustrating ways that we can lift others.

This year at Bubb, one way that we are rising by lifting others is during our schoolwide WIN (What I Need) time in which students regroup across the 1st-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade bands for some additional instruction.  This trimester, students are in one of the following groups: English Language Development, Phonics, or Math Fluency and Problem Solving.  Designing, organizing, and refining this WIN time has been a big focus for the Bubb team this year, and really demonstrates the staff’s collective ownership of the success of every student.

If you’d like to learn more about this trimester’s WIN focus, please join me for my next Principal’s Coffee on Thursday, January 26th at 8:00am in the Bubb Staff Lounge.  Since we will be indoors on campus, all visitors will need to sign in to the front office with their photo ID and COVID vaccination card (or their volunteer badge) and wear a mask.  In addition to discussing WIN time, we will have plenty of time for questions and answers, as well as coffee and donuts.  Hope to see you there!

Have a great week!

In partnership,

Principal Cyndee

Health and Wellness Parenting Tip: Belly Breathing

Our mood is influenced by physical sensations in our body. When we feel stressed, we tend to take quick and shallow breaths. By taking slow and deep breaths, we can signal our body to relax.

Watch this video to learn more about how belly breathing can help your child (or you) feel more relaxed.

To belly breathe:

  1. Choose a comfortable position, such as sitting on a chair or laying on your back.

  2. Place one hand on your belly.

  3. Take a deep breath in through your nose while you count to four. As you breathe in, your belly should rise.

  4. Hold your breath while you count to five.

  5. Breathe out through your mouth while you count to six. As you breathe out, your belly should flatten.

You may need to repeat these steps for 5-10 minutes before you start to feel relaxed. By practicing these steps, you can learn to relax after stressful situations.

Just take a look at the Party Intake Form to get familiar with what details are needed as you craft your gathering.

In case you missed it, watch this video to get some ideas, and also to learn more about the Silent Auction. Party submissions are due by January 24th. Contact [email protected] if you have any questions!
