March 23, 2022 Bulletin

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:

Dear Families,

As you know, last week, we lost a Graham student in a tragic accident.  Our deepest condolences for the student’s family and friends.  Your child may be experiencing some big feelings.  If you or your child need some support, please reach out to me.

MVWSD has updated the website with information about safe walking and biking routes to school.  The link has the preferred biking routes to avoid major streets, Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety guide, and other tips for getting to school safely. If your child needs a bicycle helmet, please let us know.

In partnership,

Principal Cyndee

SCHOOL NEWS

CAASPP Statewide Testing

Our 3rd-5th graders will be taking their statewide standardized tests soon. 3rd and 4th graders will test before AM recess 4/25-5/6, while the 5th graders will test before AM recess 4/25-5/13.  Please avoid scheduling appointments during these times.  More information about CAASPP statewide testing will be included in upcoming bulletins.

No Open House events this year

Our schools will not be holding Open House events on March 30 and 31, as we traditionally do. COVID precautions prevent us from bringing many additional people on site, and we are not able to provide a robust virtual Open House experience.

We certainly will miss seeing all of the amazing work from our students and teachers, and look forward to a time we can gather to celebrate students’ work.

Water Bottles

The days are getting sunny and warmer☀️!  Be sure to send your child to school with a water bottle daily.  Because of our COVID precautions, students are not able to drink directly from our water fountains, but they are able to refill their water bottles at the fountain. Write your child’s name on the bottle so it can be returned if misplaced.

Speaking respectfully about mask choices

As mask mandates change at MVWSD, it is important to respect the decisions of individuals and families as they choose to mask or not mask while outdoors at school (indoor masks are still required). Staff members will support students with respectful conversations on campus. We encourage you to talk with your children about your family’s choices, and about communicating empathy and understanding for others’ choices. For tips on how students can respectfully speak up and speak out, see this helpful infographic. We know our students will be upstanders and take care of each other!
