Principal’s Message

Dear Bubb Families,

Thank you for another great week of school!  Kids are coming to school on time and are well rested.  At our Monday morning meeting this week, we discussed what it looks like to be an awesome Bubb Cub at arrival/drop off time:

Be safe: Walk to your classroom line.  Walk your wheels (bikes, scooters, Zuca backpacks, etc.) while on campus.  Stay off the play structure.

Use respect: Use kind words when speaking to your friends in line.  Follow yard supervisor’s instructions.

Be responsible: Have your supplies and homework ready.  Check in with the office if you are late to school.

Be an upstander: Remind your friends to make good choices.  Say good morning to your classmates and teacher.  Report problems to a yard supervisor.

Thank you for modeling and reinforcing the rules with your children.  

As a reminder, the car circle is for drop off and pick up only.  Do NOT park or leave your vehicle.  If your child needs to get something from the trunk, please park in a stall or on the street instead of using the car circle.  Parents may NOT drop off or pick up children in the back parking lot near the MUR.  Thank you for working together to keep every Bubb cub safe.

BUBB NEWS

Hearing and Vision

"Each fall, MVWSD conducts hearing and vision screenings of all students in kindergarten, second-, fifth- and eighth-grade, as California State Law mandates.  These screenings will take place at your child's school site, Bubb Elementary on Monday, September 17, 2018.

Parents will be notified in writing if children fail a screening. Parents who do not want their child screened for either vision and/or hearing should send a letter to their child's school each school year indicating that their child is to be excluded, and vision and/or hearing results will need to be provided from their physician.

If you have any concerns about your child’s vision or hearing please contact your school nurse. Questions about the screenings should be directed to the Health Services office at 650-526-3570 ext. 1050."

Back to School Night

Please plan to join us on September 5th for Back to School Night. This is an important opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and learn about the academic program, expectations, procedures, and the many ways to volunteer in the classroom. This is an adult-only event; therefore, we respectfully ask that you arrange for childcare. This year, each classroom will be holding 2 sessions: 6:00-6:45 and 6:45-7:30.  Information presented will be the same at both sessions; please attend the session that is more convenient for you.  

September 5th will be a minimum day ending at 11:55 a.m.

 

After School Supervision

We value our strong community and love that our students and families want to stay at Bubb, even past dismissal time.  However, please remember that there is no supervision after school.  Students MUST be supervised by a responsible adult after school at all times.  Over the past few weeks, we have had several instances of students making inappropriate choices after school.  Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring that all students are supervised and safe.

Mentor Tutor Connection Volunteer Information Session - September 12th

You can change the life of a student!

Come learn about volunteer opportunities to Mentor high school students and Tutor students in grades K-8  in our Mountain View and Los Altos schools.

There is no obligation to sign up as a volunteer.  You're welcome to just come and learn more about what we do.

All volunteers must be high school graduates.

MV Parent U: “Super readers!” on Sept. 12

MV Parent U presents: “Super Readers! Growing Your Child's Skills, One Book at a Time”  Wednesday, September 12th from 6:30-8pm at the Crittenden Middle School MUR.

Presenters: The Mountain View Public Library (Julie Jackson, Librarian Youth Services) and Patricia Girardi (Former Principal and District Literacy Coordinator)

Please join us to learn several strategies for supporting your readers and writers at home:

• How to boost your child’s reading engagement and make reading fun

• Ways to encourage and support writing

• How to have conversations with your child and build language that supports academic success

In addition, the Mountain View Library will share:

* Ebooks and online library resources

* Information on library programs and services for the entire family

Provided:

* Interpretation (Spanish support)

* Child care

* Transportation (Bus departs from Castro Elementary and Graham Middle School at 6 p.m. and returns at 8:30 p.m.)

MVLA Parent Education: Finding the Right Fit College at the Right Price

MVEF

Look for the Mountain View Educational Foundation (MVEF) at the District’s Back to School nights over the next two weeks. We have new posters on campus, along with an updated brochure. Donate to MVEF to enable us to continue funding arts, music, athletics and more at every school in the District! You can learn more at mvef.org.

This Thursday, the 30th, you can dine out and support MVEF! The Counter restaurant is giving 15% of your bill back to MVEF. Just make sure to mention MVEF or show them the attached flyer!

Become a Living Classroom Docent!
Mountain View Whisman School District’s Living Classroom program inspires our students to value the natural world through garden-based education. We provide Kindergarten through 6th grade classrooms with hour-long lessons that correlate with current science, math, and social studies standards. Living Classroom uses a hands-on, inquiry approach to learning which ensures our lessons are effective AND fun!

This year we will teach over 500 lessons with the help of our volunteers. Becoming a docent is rewarding, enjoyable, and no prior teaching experience is required. Interested in sharing your love of nature and outdoor learning with students? We would love to have you on board! Want to learn more? Welcome from MVEF and Aug. 30 Night at the Counter

Welcome back from the Mountain View Educational Foundation (MVEF)! MVEF is a non-profit that raises funds to provide a competitive, well-rounded education that would not be possible without this additional funding.  Thanks to tax-deductible donations from parents like you, MVEF funds programs like weekly art and music classes at every elementary school led by Community School of Music and Arts teachers, hands-on science field trips for every 4th, 5th and 6th grader, garden-based lessons led by Living Classroom, middle school athletics, instrument repair and purchase and more! We need your help to meet our goal to raise $750,000. PTA NEWS

Student Supplies-

Rather than ask families to provide a long list of supplies for each of their children, the Bubb staff would prefer to purchase all the supplies that they will need for the year. This ensures that everyone is equally equipped and prepared, and parents save time and money! In order to make this possible, we ask that families contribute a $40 donation for each child.

Please return the School Supply Form along with payment (cash or check made out to “Bubb PTA”) to the school office or your child’s teacher as soon as possible.

 

Join the Bubb School Site Council

We are looking for two parents or community representatives to join the Bubb School Site Council.

Made up of Principal Cyndee, teachers, staff, parents, and community members, we partner on academics, culture, and site-specific goals for our school. We review and approve the annual Bubb Site Plan that includes strategies and actions on how to meet those goals. We collaborate with the Superintendent and representatives from other MVWSD site councils to learn about and provide input on key aspects of the district.

Nominations are due Wednesday September 5th. More information is available on the nomination form.

PTA NEWS

Room Parents Needed

Each classroom needs one or more Room Parents who help the teacher by coordinating volunteers for class parties, field trips, and WATSA. To learn more, read What Does a Room Parent Do? To become a Room Parent for your child's class, please sign up on Konstella or email bubbvolunteer@gmail.com.

Experienced room parents are asked to attend a brief training this Friday, August 31 from 8-8:30 am in the MUR. New Room Parents (or those that miss the Aug. 31 meeting) should attend the training on Friday, September 7 from 8-9 am in the MUR.

New to Bubb? Get a Bubb buddy!

Are you new to Bubb this year? Wondering how do I sign up for _____? What’s this WATSA thing I keep hearing about? Parents can sign up for a Bubb Buddy — a parent who’s been around the block at Bubb and can answer any questions you have. If you sign up, your experienced buddy will contact you via email and you can start asking questions! Fill out the Bubb Buddy request form today.

Record the books you've read over summer break on this form or your own paper from home. Then return the list to the Bubb front office by this Friday, August 31 and you'll get to choose a brand new book in September.

The PTA has a long list of enrichment programs we'd like to offer to all our Bubb Cubs this year, but we can't do it without your help. Join online with a credit card or print and complete the membership form, then return it with your cash or check payment to the school Office.

Countdown to Bubb Walkathon & Silent Auction (WATSA)

Save the date! Our Walkathon & Silent Auction is set for October 5, 2018. It's our biggest fundraiser of the year and we need EVERYONE'S help to make it a success. So plan to join the rest of the Bubb community in making WATSA a fun day for our families and a successful fundraiser for the school!

Join the WATSA Kick-off Meeting on Tuesday, September 4 at 8:00 am in the MUR. 
Our co-chairs will walk through new and exciting changes to WATSA this year (new food options! new incentives for volunteers! more parties!) and share different ways parents can help make the event a big success through volunteering time, goods & services, or money. This is your opportunity to get all your burning questions answered and help influence this fun event! 

Donate to the Silent Auction! Do you or someone you know own a business that could donate products or services? Are you a season ticket holder to professional sporting events, theaters, dance or musical companies and could donate tickets to an event?  Do you have a special talent you could offer or an item that you’d like to donate yourself? If so, please fill out the Donation Form and return it to the Bubb front office by Friday, September 7.

Ready to Party? Would you be willing to team up with some other parents to host a theme party where people donate to the PTA to attend? This is the idea behind our Silent Auction Parties and we need lots of families to join in on the fun. Past party themes include cookie decorating, wine tasting, mini golf, billiards, and tamale making. The ideas are endless, so grab some parent friends and get creative. Use the online Party Donation Form to reserve your party theme or email Auction Party Lead, Lisa Henry (lhudson15@yahoo.com) if you are interested in hosting a party and we can match you to one that's already been donated.

We have over 1,000 participants who join us on WATSA day and will see promotions from your business. WATSA Volunteer Committee We still have many volunteer roles that need to be filled to help make WATSA a success, including leads in critical areas like Auction Event Management, Data Leads and a Craft Corner lead. Friday is Spirit Day

Our goal is to have 80% of students participate by wearing any Bubb shirt every Friday.
