MVWSD 2019-20 calendar

NEW: **MVWSD 2020-21 Calendar**

Dear Families,

Thank you for your support, patience, and flexibility as we finish up week 2 of Shelter in Place.  At this week's virtual faculty meeting, teachers and staff shared their new learning with creating Optional Flexible Learning Plans for their students.  Teachers taught each other what they have learned using tools like Zoom, Hangouts, Google classroom, SeeSaw, etc.  They also spent time reviewing each other's Flexible Learning plans from this week to refine their plans for the coming week.  I am so grateful for the Bubb team for their continued care for their students.  I know that my kids were so excited to see their teachers and classmates online this week!

This working from home and taking care of kids business is hard!  Here's a scene from my house earlier this week:

me: Your teacher sent some work for you to do this week.  Looks like a good way to fit in the academic tasks during your schedule.
kid: OMG.  This is so much work!  Why do we have to do this?
me: Whatever, it's fine.  All of it's optional.  If you want to read all day and do some iReady, that's fine with me.  Whatever you want to do today.
kid: So, you don't care about my learning? You don't want me to do the work so that I'll just fall behind?
Part of this reaction is definitely just what comes with the territory of raising teens/pre-teens.  (I also have an adult son, so I just have to keep reminding myself that it gets better on the other side!)  But, I also was reminded of the flight attendant analogy that I had made in an earlier Bubb Bulletin post.  My stress with getting these Flexible Learning options going was rubbing off on her.  The truth is, as Dr. Rudolph said in his message about flexible learning (March 24, Flexible Learning Options), "when COVID-19 passes - and it will - we will be here to partner with our families, identify and instructional gaps and work hard to catch students up on what they missed."  When we get back to school, Bubb teachers will do what they do best--connect with students and meet them where they're at.

Finally, thank you to all the Bubb grown ups working in health care, food service, and other essential jobs.  We appreciate all that you do to keep us healthy and safe.

As always, please reach out to me with any questions, comments, or celebrations!

In partnership,
Principal Cyndee

NEWS FROM THE DISTRICT OFFICE

Emotional, logistics support resources for families

Our School Community Engagement Facilitators have teamed up to provide a list of resources for families. Sheltering in place and not being in our regular routines of work and school can be hard on our emotional and mental health, in addition to making access to meals, rent payments and other typical activities more difficult.

From the City: Sign up to get regular COVID-19 updates

The City of Mountain View’s strategic communications team is offering regular updates about COVID-19 response and resources. Residents may text 'MVCOVID' to 22828 to have the digest sent right to their emails every day. Here is the link to the latest issue. Make sure you’re counted! The U.S. Census is coming up

It’s crucial that we all participate, because an accurate count of residents is important for funding our community’s public resources, planning for the future, and for our voice in government. We all want to make sure that Mountain View gets the funding, services, and business support we need.

Here's how the Census works (video)

Mensaje de La Directora

Estimadas familias,

niño: Entonces, ¿no te importa mi aprendizaje?
